The Renfrewshire Youth Voice was established in 2005 and started life as an "MSYP Support Group" before changing it's name to "Renfrewshire Young Team" in September 2005 and then finally to Renfrewshire Youth Voice in November 2005.

The group initially consisted of 6 young people who were interested in the Scottish Youth Parliament and all stood for election. Members of a Linwood youth club and the Renfrewshire Senior Pupils Forum were invited to attend the MSYP meetings regularly as representatives of other youth groups creating a whole new youth forum which is now known as the RYV. As the group grew, more youth orgonisations were represented by members regularly attending RYV meetings along with individual young people who just wanted to get involved.
