Who Are We?
Renfrewshire Youth Voice (RYV) is a youth-led organisation representing the views of young people in Renfrewshire and nationally. The membership consists of young volunteers who live in Renfrewshire and representatives of other youth groups who are made up of young people or work with young people in Renfrewshire.
RYV takes on many roles within the community, as a forum for young people to express their opinions and also as the representative for young people in community groups and local government.
As A Youth Council...
Renfrewshire Youth Voice is the local authority level youth council representing all young people between 12-25 living or regularly using services in Renfrewshire. Through our links with major community organisations, council and Members of the Scottish Youth Parliament (MSYPs) we can take your views and opinions to whomever you want to hear them.
Locally
RYV has members in all 5 Local Area Committees in Renfrewshire making sure that the views of young people are being listened to and carried out by councilors and community organisations. This also allows us to keep you updated on the major issues taking place that can affect you in your local area.
Nationally
The 5 Members of the Scottish Youth Parliament sit on RYV and update the group on their activities in Renfrewshire and nationally at Youth Parliament meetings and events. You can talk to your MSYP by attending your MSYPs surgery at your school, attending an RYV meeting or emailing them from their mini site: RYV.org.uk/msyps
Finally, you can get in touch with RYV members and other young people by visiting our forums at RYV.org.uk/forums and discuss your issues or just chat.
As A Community Organisation
RYV work alongside community organisations such as Strathclyde Police, Strathclyde Fire & Rescue, Renfrewshire Council, Renfrewshire Youth Services and many more. We ensure that on projects aimed at young people, young people have a say in how it is done.
A good example of this is the Renfrewshire Youth Bus, a mobile youth centre designed to prevent anti-social behavior in areas where it is high. The Youth Bus is equipped with two PS3s, two Xbox 360's, two computers with internet access, a Wii and an Air Hockey table. The success of the bus is a show of the strength of the relationship between RYV and the other organisations and also the power of youth engagement.
